The FAME/AMT program is a nationally recognized, industry-driven partnership between Central Indiana manufacturers and Vincennes University. The goal of our program is to create “global best” skilled worker talent to meet the needs of a rapidly growing manufacturing sector. Employers have come together to form two FAME chapters in the Central Indiana region. Work Programs
CNC Machinist Training
Getting Started:
Program is six months in length. The students spend four hours per day (combination of classroom and lab) and four hours in a shop rotation. Currently available to MTM employees only.
Course Objectives:
Learn how to write real-live CNC Machine programs, validate their program, and demonstrate they have used the appropriate methodologies.
- Part and tool probing
- Precision measurement
- Setup techniques, speeds and feeds
- Learn basic CNC/Shop Math & Print Reading
- Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
- Milling, Turning, Drilling, Tapping, Thread Milling, Gaging
- Experience with the Siemens control (Operation and Programming)
Hands-On:
Spend time in the facility learning first-hand how we properly setup parts, selecting the right speeds and feeds, and inspection methods.
Welder Training
Getting Started:
Program is three months in length. This involves a combination of both classroom and lab (hands-on) training. We also provide other variations of training based on experience level and needs of the employee. Currently available to MTM employees only.
Course Objectives:
- Grinding, cutting and gouging
- Layout, fitup and distortion
- Weld terminology and symbols
- GMAW, GMAW-P, GTAW, FCAW, SAW
- Learn basic Shop Math & Print Reading
- Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
- PQR, WPS, WPQ
Hands-On:
Spend time in the facility learning first-hand how we properly setup parts, selecting the right processes, and NDT inspection methods.
Internships
Getting Started:
MTM offers paid internship positions for college and high school students that are interested in a manufacturing career.
Hands on experience at a privately-owned, world class manufacturing company. Positions typically available in engineering and operations.
Work duties typically include:
o Supporting continuous improvement efforts on shop floor
o Documenting processes of shop operations
o Developing training material to support documented processes
o Working with shop floor team leaders and managers to provide engineering/technical support to improving methods for manufacturing
o Updating database information
o Creating metric charts to track current project results
Many of our interns continually come back to MTM to complete future rotations or to work full-time upon graduation.
